Building Bridges
While abroad I have noticed that English is spoken in Europe a lot more than I anticipated and that it is used to bridge intercultural communication. There have been many instances where I have observed two non-native English speakers, of two different origins, bridge their cultural gap through the use of the English language. Two questions that two of my fellow classmates, Hannah Duane and Camry Wilborn, asked was "Why do people choose to communicate in English?" and further more "What role does the English language play in global citizenship?" After research, personal interviews with students and Dr. Roberta Cimarosti--a professor, scholar of post-colonial literature, and assistant program director of Casa Artom we were able to create a podcast that addresses the power of the English language and its role in global citizenship.
